Weather - Albufeira

 

Beaches - Praia da Falesia - running between Olhos de Água and Vilamoura this is a beautiful long beach backdropped by orange-red sandstone cliffs which is uncrowded even during the peak Summer periods. In the opposite direction towards Albufeira the beaches are smaller set in interesting coves with rockpools and the ever changing coastline to explore.

 

Golf - extensively catered for on the Algarve - Vilamoura is a 10-minute drive with its numerous golf courses and large marina. Small developments such as Balaia Golf Village and Pine Cliffs are nearby. Around 25 minutes away are the Golfing centres of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.

Zoomarine also has exciting displays with dolphins, seals, sea-lions and birds of prey, plus communal swimming pools, rides and flumes. Watersports, Boat Hire and Boat Trips all available nearby.

Cycling On and Off Road - Bike hire available from a number of suppliers on the Algarve with free delivery.

Walks - Lots of opportunities to explore the coastline and inland Algarve.

History - Ancient Forts such as the Forteleza in Sagres the naval school of Henry The Navigator was based and ornate Churches such as the São Lourenço Church near Almancil with its glazed tiles covering the walls and ceiling.

And not forgetting the gourmet experiences that await you at restaurants - succulent seafood and fresh fish including Grilled Sardines, Golden Bream, Sea Bass and traditional Portuguese meals such as Cataplana and Chicken Piri-Piri.

Try the Portuguese wines, some good Reds as well as sparkling Vinho Verde (literally 'Green Wine') and of course light fresh rosés. Or how about some of the local firewater - Medronho - a sort of schnapps made from the fruit of the arbutus tree, Brandymel - Schnapps with Honey or Macieira Brandy. There are also some almond flavoured liqueurs which are not so harsh and best served ice cold.
